Now that the air is cooling off and the mornings are growing darker, we can finally say that fall is here. While most people think of fall as a time to plan for Halloween and Thanksgiving festivities, Coloradans have a different favorite fall pastime — searching for exceptionally beautiful fall foliage.

Most Coloradans have to make a trek to find changing aspens, but if you are a new resident of the Townhomes On Vine, or if you are currently looking at our townhomes for sale in Fort Collins, you have the opportunity to find fall colors just a stone’s throw away.

In today’s blog, your provider of Fort Collins townhomes, the Townhomes On Vine will be discussing a few of our favorite Northern Colorado leaf-peeping destinations.

Rocky Mountain National Park

As residents of Northern Colorado, it is hard to talk about leaf peeping without discussing Rocky Mountain National Park. Located under 50 miles from Fort Collins, Rocky Mountain National Park provides its visitors with some of the most beautiful views in the world — including changing leaves! Simply drive through the park, or take a quick hike around Bear Lake for the best leaf peeping on the front range!

The Poudre Canyon

Just miles north of Fort Collins, the Cache la Poudre river emerges from the meandering Poudre River Canyon. Known for its abundance of recreational activities, the Poudre Canyon is a staple of Fort Collins culture. What it knows less for is its amazing fall foliage. While the Poudre Canyon is not historically known for its fall colors, it does have some dense pockets of changing aspens — as long as you are willing to go for a quick hike. Additionally, venturing up the Poudre Canyon is an excellent way to avoid the heavy Denver traffic leaf peeper traffic.

Red Feather Lakes

Located nearly 50 miles Northwest of Fort Collins, Red Feather Lakes offers a unique opportunity to its visitors — the ability to soak up the fall colors from the water. Red Feather Lakes is a part of the 612,000-acre Roosevelt National Forest and offers an abundance of outdoor recreation and camping opportunities. So what are you waiting for? Grab the family and make a weekend out of it — after all, it is just a short hour-long drive from our doorstep.

Cameron Pass

Cameron pass, just 65 miles west of Fort Collins is usually known for its winter sports opportunities like skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and ice fishing, but its recreation opportunities begin far before the first snow falls. Sitting at 10,249 feet of elevation, Cameron pass is known for its thick pockets of aspens that synchronously change their colors. Additionally, Cameron Pass is on the way to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, maki9ng for the perfect excuse for a weekend getaway.

North Park

North Park, another stop on the way from the doorstep of our Fort Collins townhomes to Steamboat Springs is by nature a large, treeless prairie that encompasses a large portion of state highway 14. But if there are no trees, why would we suggest that you visit there to see the changing leaves? While North Park itself does not have any sort of foliage, it is surrounded by forest, creating favorable conditions for aspens and high altitude shrubs. To find leaves in North Park, simply head to the center of the park, and then pick a direction to head!

Lory State Park

Last but certainly not least on our list of fall foliage hotspots is Lory State Park. Lory State Park is essentially our backyard here in Fort Collins. In fact, Lory State Park is a quick 20-minute drive from our townhomes for sale in Fort Collins. While we know that Lory State Park is seemingly less exciting than hitting the road and seeing a part of Colorado that you don’t see daily, it is an excellent way to hit the trails and watch the trees change after a long day of work.
